Rye Country Day School’s Head of School Randall Dunn is leaving at the end of the current academic year. Dunn arrived at RCDS in 2022 after the retirement of Scott Nelson, who served as Head of School for 29 years. No reason was provided for his departure.

“During his tenure, RCDS has made meaningful progress on key strategic initiatives, including the Master Plan and related capital campaign and the Strategic Plan, which will guide us through the next phase of our development,” said Board of Trustees President Rosa Perkins in an open letter. She said applications are at a “record high” and annual giving continues to reach “historic levels”.

Dunn re-iterated the school’s top priorities in his departure note and mentioned “RCDS is working closely with the City of Rye to develop the eastern portion of campus and enhance facilities” – a reference to the nearly 9 acre Thruway property that was purchased in early 2022. The project is in its planning stage and is one of the larger projects underway in the City.

Lower School Principal Dr. Stacey Sotirhos has been appointed to serve as Interim Head of School for the 2026-27 school year while the school conducts a national search for what will be the schools 10th Head of School in its history.
